Make sure it's not a bad gauge or sending unit by checking the temp with a mechanical gauge or coolant temp sensor/thermometer. Could be a water pump going out as well. The dash vent problem is probably not related and is likely a vacuum leak or a bad blend door or actuator for it

Based on what you've said, the emissions inspection would have nothing to do with the cooling system. You just need to go to a radiator shop and have your cooling system pressure tested. That will determine exactly where any leak is at. They just hook up a hand pump and pump the radiator full of air to a specific pressure. Then they look to see if the pressure holds. If not they look around to see where the coolant is escaping. They probably will put a dye in the radiator and inspect with a UV light. That way they can find minute leaks and also see if it is emanating from the heater core. It should not cost more than $30 for the diagnosis, and might even be free. I do these things myself, so I do not really know what the retail costs are; though I know it does not require an ace mechanic to do it. They should also make sure that your fan system is operating correctly. If it is mechanical they should inspect the belts and bearing.

Top it off sqweeze the lower hose to move the air up.start with cap off watch the water or coolant level. If it starts bubbles or pushes out right away,you have a head gasket problem.coolant will be present in the holes just wait thirty minutes and roll the engine with the starter. Just a little time. As for the warning lamps you already know something is not right .Best of luck

A non- operational cooling fans and could just be a bad relay $15 or replacement fans at $80-$150 plus labor 4. now you need a complete cooling system flush to get that stop leak out and have the cooling system checked for all the above that where the $200-$500 comes into play and then at worst it is the head gasket $760-$1200 parts and mostly gonna be labor charge. why is my car running hot.?

From what you said I take it that it will not overheat if you do not have a thermostat in the system. There are only two moving parts in the cooling system that deal with the antifreeze. It has been my experience that you can not put the thermostat in upside down but I have to ask. The only other thing would be the water pump not being able to push water past the thermostat because of the smaller opening when it is in place. I do not think it is air in the system, thermostats have bleed holes in them to let the air through

id bet that the fan dos not come on either, there is the root cause for the situation. the lack of airflow through the radiator is allowing the heat to build up. check out the fuse for the cooling system, the relay for the same and the cooling fan itself. there can be two fans but that does not change much in this situation. if all of that is ok, then the cpu could be at fault or a coolant temperature sensor. a
