Songs to Play at a Wedding Reception?

Slow love songs should not be overplayed at a wedding. Most people will be there to party, so the music should reflect this. Slow songs should be played once every few songs to give people a rest from more upbeat dancing. Also, music should be from many genres and many decades as to please every guest at the wedding. Make sure any songs you choose to have played are the edited versions of the songs, so as not to offend anybody. The best way to know if music is appropriate is to ask yourself 2 questions: Will my grandmother be ok with this song? Will this song be ok for the flower girl to sing at school or at home? Here's a list of appropriate songs: "Get This Party Started" by Pink "1 2 3 4" by Plain White T's "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang "Rock and Roll All Night" by KISS "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" by Elton John "Love Shack" by B52's "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd "Open Arms" by Journey "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins "Earth Angel" by the Penguins "You are the One That I Want" by John Travolta/Olivia Newton John (Grease soundtrack) "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas "I Ca not Help Falling in Love With You" by Elvis Presley "Say Hey" by Michael Franti "Twist" by Chubby Checker "Fever" by Peggy Lee "I Love the Way You Love Me" by John Michael Montgomery "Electric Slide" by Marcia Griffiths "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett' "How Deep Is Your Love" by the Bee Gees "Shout" by the Isley Brothers "When I Said I Do" by Clint Black & Lisa Hartman Black "Thriller" by Michael Jackson "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper "Dance to the Music" by Sly and the Family Stone "At Last" by Etta James "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf "Kiss From a Rose" by Seal "Mony Mony" by Billy Idol "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce featuring Jay-Z "Stand By Me" by Ben E King "All For You" by Janet Jackson "Then" by Brad Paisley "All Star" by Smash Mouth "Pour Some Sugar On Me" by Def Leppard "Cotton Eye Joe" by Rednex "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers "Jump" by Kriss Kross "Forever" by Chris Brown "I will Be There For You" by the Rembrandts "More Than Words" by Extreme "Oh Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" by Stevie Wonder "Waiting for Tonight" by Jennifer Lopez "Black Betty" by Ram Jam "Benny and the Jets" by Elton John "Friends In Low Places" by Garth Brooks "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye "Whip It" by Devo "Wannabe" by Spice Girls "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC "Hey Ya!" by Outcast "Love and Marriage" by Frank Sinatra "Closing Time" by Semisonic

1. Trying to plan a nice reception for cheap?

Well, I got a lot of my things from the dollar Store and decorated them up a little. I went to the flower shop and I am ordered loose stems and spent $76 on th flowers for the tables. I got alstermia lilies which are pretty and cheap. The other cheap ones are the daisies. The flowers I got come in a lot of colors. We are doing a lot of the food ourselves too. Which makes it a lot cheaper. We are expecting our guest list to be abut 125 and I am probably going to spend about $500 - $600 on food. You can make it cheap but still nice. Get creative. Look at some of the Martha Stewart wedding magazines. There are a lot of things you can do yourself. Also, get help from family and friends that like to do that sort of thing. Our pictures are included in our package for the ceremony but we are having a friend with a nice camera do the pictures for the reception. A friend of ours is going to DJ. Ask around...friends might have sources. Good luck!

2. Is having this kind of reception tacky?

That's a cute idea! Now, the only thing that you need to do is push back the reception a bit because people typically expect an actual dinner meal around 5. A 7pm appetizer reception would be better because guest will probably not expect a fully service dinner. On the invitation let your guests know what to expect, put something on it like: Following the ceremony, please join us in an appetizer (or if you are serving alcohol the appropriate word is cocktail) reception. Best of luck! Irene
