2. Desktop microphone causes subwoofer to vibrate

Two possibilities... feedback or grounding issue. The vibration could be acoustic feedback - well-known to any audio engineer. Sound from the sub is travelling through the floor, desk etc directly to the mic, which is then sending that sound straight back to the speakers... & round we go. The only solution is turn it down, or physically isolate one from the other. Put the sub somewhere else; isolate it from the floor or desk on speaker spikes or neoprene feet. Put the mic on a stand or soft surface.... or wear headphones. If it's not feedback, then the alternative is it could be an un-grounded connection & the vibration is 50 or 60Hz generated by the mains voltages nearby. Fix would be check the circuit is clean & undamaged. This vibration would increase directly in a linear fashion with the speaker volume. Feedback would suddenly get louder & louder as you turn up the volume, yet disappear completely at low volumes; grounding hum would only totally disappear at no volume. The pop is probably that the mic input gain is relatively low compared to the audio path's output gain; therefore the switching is relatively loud compared to the signal it's getting from your voice. Solution would be to investigate whether you have sufficient input gain & see if increasing it [within reason] would help. Skype has a visual indicator of input gain. Switch off auto-gain & see if that helps too.Alternatively, the mic switching pop is a direct result of the above-mentioned grounding issue.

4. Can a subwoofer break a computer?

It's probably not, unless it's SO powerful that it shakes things up. Even then, the computer would need to have loose parts for the subwoofer to do damage. Still, every once in a while I would take the computer apart (to clean out dust bunnies more more often than) to tighten the screws on internal parts up.

Upgrade My Subwoofer Or Amplifier First?
if it is mid bass you seek, you probably want to replace your 4 inch and 5.25 inch speakers with at least 6.5 inch, preferably 6X9 inch speakers and then you can turn the bass down to get the kick drum and those speakers should give you a better mid range sound, the rest of the system should sound a lot better once you get those in, the amplifier and sub seem to be fine to go along with some 6X9 speakers. another option other than trying to fit bigger speakers in your doors is to get a small amplifier and a pair of 6X9 inch speakers and a pair of 6X9 inch speaker boxes and wire it up and plop it on the rear dashboard of the car (probably the simplest option for your mid bass) 6X9 inch speakers give much better bass than the 4 and 5.25 inch speakers due to the increased surface area of the cone, 6.5 inch speakers should still give you some better bass than the 4 and 5.25 inch speakers. i hope this helps, chris1. Can I run a car subwoofer unamplified?Your going to need an Amp. Try investing in a good deck and some powerful speakers that will replace the ones in your door, and all the other locations in your car. That will save you space and will still have the BOOM you want2. is this a good subwoofer?titanium eclipse3. Can a sealed subwoofer be opened? My take is that what happened is you unscrewed the input terminal panel, it fell in, and now you can not open the subwoofer to re-assemble the connections. If the screws that held the terminals are on the outside, I recommend "fishing" a bit with a cut metal coat hanger and try to work it back close to where it is supposed to be. Then grab it with needle-nose pliers when you can. Take your time, the harder you work at it - the tougher it will be. Depending on the subwoofer, often the speaker and it's grill are the removable parts that do not seem obvious. While the box is glued, that subwoofer driver HAD to be screwed in somehow, and a grill placed over it. If you can get the subwoofer driver out - you've got it made!4. What is a great subwoofer for $200-$250?Build your own if you want "great" for that kind of money, and do not mind a weekend or two of woodworking. There's some discussions of DIY subwoofers at Avsforums.com which should point you in the right direction. The woofer in a $700 retail subwoofer costs under $150 without the box... You also need an amplifier; while there are "plate" amplifiers ready to bolt into the side of the sub box you build, they are not great value for money. I would suggest using a spare stereo receiver (from a thrift shop or yard sale, if there is not one in the basement or attic already) as a temporary measure. In a small room it may be more than enough bass. But, a $150 woofer will handle much more power than that, so keep your eyes open for a deal on a used home amp like an NAD, Carver, Adcom, or Hafler, to name a few, that does more like a couple hundred watts. Or a used semi-pro amp like a Peavey, Samson, or Behringer, which should get you 250 watts or much more. If you can afford to, build two subs, because placing the subs in different locations will give a more even distribution of bass in the room5.
