Toyota in all it's greed for money, experimented with a good thing. Normal automobile mechanics. In the past few years Toyota replaced everything in sight inside the engine that had a physical connection, with cheap electronics made overseas, and then put them in the cars without telling the public--as an example--(Your foot no longer controls the gas, but instead a cheap tiny computer chip, which when it goes bad, over accelerates the car to oblivion.) Greed did this. Nothing else. And now the cat is out of the bag!

Why don't we introduce Hydrogen cars on a massive scale instead of Bush drilling with no promise of drop in $$
Hydrogen has its problems too. And some want to make the hydrogen from oil stocks, although there is good news out of Japan were a small company has developed a car that converts water to hydrogen on a need to use basis, just fill the tank with water and it makes hydrogen as you go. Electric cars are also very promising, Electric is by far the most efficient drive train out there. Many company's are bringing electric cars to the market, Subaru has developed a plug in electric cars that goes a couple hundred miles on a overnight charge, also a man recently took the electric motor out of a old forklift and put it in his car and now commutes 300 miles per month for $7. Now thats cheap. Nissan is coming with a complete lineup of electric cars and truck in 2010 as well as Chevy with the new Volt car. Hydrogen is used in fuel cell cars which are very expensive to build. Plug in electric or hybrid plug in electric are the best option right now. I have heard that Toyota has a very high mileage hybrid in the works. The market is going to solve this high fuel crisis, I just hope the U.S. auto people get in the game better and do not let the Japanese take over the market completely, also it has been said the Chinese are working on this in a huge way and if they bring the cheap electric cars to market they could take the cars business over completely with their cheap labor. How did the British end up making some of the worst quality cars in the latter half of the 20th century?
A decent question for once. British Leyland bought up most of the other British Manufacturers. The Biggest Rival to British Leyland in the British market was BRITISH LEYLAND. You could drive down a street and see garages selling Morris Cars, another selling Triumph, another Rovers and so on and they all competed with each other on price. The managers had too high an opinion of themselves and spent most of their time having lunches and the Unions were dominated by Communists who want to overthrow the Government.The accountants were penny pinching as the competition to sell the cars between themselves as different marks pushed the profits down. The engineers were designing decent cars BUT Management refused to make them resulting in many engineers going to work for other companies which did make them and outsold the British Leyland vehicles. Now not all the cars were bad. BUT the constant arguing, penny pinching and strikes eventually killed the company. The Company the Management and its employees kill it themselves

Touring cars
It was intended that Mercedes-Benz would enter rallying with the Mercedes-Benz W201 in the early 1980s. Yet, as all wheel drive and turbochargers were introduced by the competition (Audi Quattro) at that time, this was cancelled. Instead the W201 ended up being used in the DTM touring car series from 1988, with the car again being prepared by AMG, who became an official partner and continue to enter the new DTM. However, Mercedes-Benz will cease its factory involvement in DTM at the end of the 2018 season in order to join the Formula E series for Season 6 (2019-20). In 2013, Mercedes-Benz entered the V8 Supercars Championship with the Erebus Motorsport team, fielding three Mercedes-Benz E63s V8s in 2013 and two in the 2014 and 2015 championships. For the 2016 season, Erebus ceased development of its E63 AMGs to instead field a pair of Holden VF Commodores, bringing an end to Mercedes-Benz' involvement in the Supercars Championship for the foreseeable future.
