What do you mean? Do you mean prove what they are, prove how old they are, what? To figure out how old stuff is, we use a lot of techniques. Carbon dating's one of them, sure, at least for those of us who are finding more recent things. It's only good for so many tens of thousands of years before present, after all. We also use soil levels. In the US, the Geological Service has nicely mapped out most, if not all, of the soil layers, complete with dates. You know what soil layer you are in, you know how old, about, your stuff is. We also use the materials themselves. Historic archaeologists have it fairly easy. What shape the nails are will give you a halfway decent earliest date in the States, as well as the pottery type, the glass, any maker's marks, and so on. If you find plastic, you are pretty sure your site's no more than fifty or so years old, for instance. Us prehistoric types have a harder time. Point typology's one way, for instance. Arrowhead styles changed over the centuries, and there's some sort of timeline cobbled together. Pottery styles did the same. Also, if you are lucky enough to be finding obsidian stuff, you can date that directly based on its water composition or something. Unfortunately, wildfires tend to reset that date, so it's not perfect. Those methods were all established over years of work and confirmed in several different ways. Geology, dating techniques, known invention dates, and so on were used to check the timelines. It can be tricky to figure out what something is. Some stuff's obvious- arrowheads are arrowheads. Other stuff, you can use modern people to help you. Women are still using manos and metates to grind corn, so if you find something that looks like what is in Mrs. Hernandez's kitchen, you know what it is. Sometimes you have to guess, In science, that's called getting peer reviewed, heh. I love my field, but, seriously, Actually, that's why I love my field. People are so complicated and strange that it would be a miracle to get a perfect picture of any ancient groups. The other 25% is real, serious, hard science.

There are very few things that are "only" explained one way. Anyone looking for definitive proof via archeology of anything is bound to be disappointed. Look at the fact that there is still no archeological proof of Hunnish horses or Judean Lions. Look at the fact that proof of King David just surfaced in the last decade, and he lived the the most studied area on Earth.Contrast that with the fact that mesoamerocan ruins (where the book of Mormon may have taken place) are still 98% undiscovered (according to LIDAR based estimates) and you can see one issue. And there are many misconceptions even among believers- ie the peoples were NOT descendants of Jews, but of Joseph and Asenath, who's DNA we know nothing about. Where did Asenath come from? As Egyptian aristocracy, she could come from anywhere ancient Egypt did business with. There is archeological evidence that could be China, as opium has been discovered in mummies of that time.Having said that, I would encourage the curious to look at temples in the mesoamerocan area.
