Sounds like your monitor might not be receiving, or your graphics card outputting, any red signal. If that's the case, it will be the monitor, the cable, or the graphics card/chip. Easiest option is to try a different display port. Plug the cable into a different port if you have one. Try the monitor with a different pc/laptop to see if the monitor is at fault.

I had this problem. Move the computer into a more ventilated place, its a temperature issue. The graphics card (whether on-board or not) shuts down and locks. Open you case and clean it out. Move in so the ventilation is free from objects. Ensure the cable (VGA/DVI) is stable at the back of the monitor and the desktop. Revert back graphics drivers (device manager) and reboot. Reinstall graphics drivers to latest when computer is booted up. Ensure there are no malware on your computer. Download malware bytes if you have not already, just to make sure malware is not the problem.

**yes, your computer sends a digital audio-video signal via hdmi to the receiver. the receiver then takes the audio portion, converts it to analog, amplifies it and sends it to your speakers (just like a soundcard would do for your pc). at the same time it also lets you push audio-video out the hdmi output to send to your tv or monitor. now you can use a receiver without using video-passthrough but the cabling sure is convenient, especially if you use only one monitor and arent using anything fancy like 120/144hz (which it might not support. in which case you would hook it up not using video passthrough)

it is likely that the 32 inch tv does not have the same resolution, so keep an eye on that. if you just like big, get the tv, if clarity is important to you, get the monitor

Both the computer and faulty monitor can cause that issue. I do not know what is the exact cause of the desktop to make the flicks but once it happened to me. That was not the only problem I had. I had problems with virus because my Antivirus was expired. When I reinstalled Windows and every thing, things were alright. I guess it was some thing with the computer/software and or virus effect. Much recently, in my LCD monitor the same thing happened. But I noticed that the issue was not with the computer but because of the connection cable. It started with quick flicks and eventually came to a stage that I could not use it. When I played with the data-cable of the monitor it stopped. Then I had to take it for servicing where they had to do some minor repairs and it was good as new. They said it was some thing to do witht the connection to the monitor. Very recently I noticed some thing else. The screen flicks when certain programs are opened. But it does not happen always. Then I close the program and open. To tell about this, well its prime time I reinstall windows in my computer because I did not do it in a long time, I guess it is some software issue. I guess it is best to first check the cable, reinstall device drivers and then if not take it to the doctors.
